This video explores Southwestern Newfoundland, Its history and beauty.
This area is renowned for Shipwrecks and some of the clearest waters in
the North Atlantic for Scuba Diving. This video dives on two famous
shipwrecks:
The "Stalbas" a 90m fishing vessel which sank in the harbour of Isle au
Morts (Island of the Dead). This ship is in about 50-60 feet of water and the
video even takes you inside for some erie pictures. A fascinating dive.
The "Ascania" a 9000 ton curnar cruise liner which sank in 1918. This ship
was en route to Liverpool, England with troops. The ship now lies scattered
about the bottom after being a victim of salvage operations and the furious
North Atlantic. Live ammunition still can be found around this wreck site !
This video also takes you on a scenic tour of the Southwest Coast from
Rose Blanche to Codroy Valley. See one of the oldest lighthouses in
Newfoundland at Rose Blanche, experience the Beautiful white sandy
beaches around Port Aux Basques, see the ancient marine navigational
instrument "The Astrolabe"(dated 1628) discovered near Isle Aux Morts,
Visit the scenic Codroy Valley...one of the most picturesque places in
Newfoundland.
