Book Description
The four papers included in this volume have been extended and revised from those read at the Annual Meeting of the American Folklore Society, in Detroit, Michigan, November 3-6, 1977.
This volume is the seventh in the Memorial University Folklore and Language Publications, and NO. 5 in our Bibliographical and Special Series. Two of the preceding volumes, Literature and Folk Culture : Ireland and Newfoundland and Folklore and Oral History, presented Folklore as a discipline cooperating harmoniously with other academic disciplines. This volume addresses itself to a deeper problem: the relationship of Folklore to the search for a Canadian identity.
