A Friendly Invasion,
released in 1990, marked
fifty years of American
military activity in
Newfoundland and
Labrador. It celebrated
the important events and
highlights of that
"occupation;" the location
and establishment of
bases and out posts; the
interaction of military and
civilian personnel. What
couldn't be covered in
depth, due to the focus of
the book, was the impact those serving on the bases and
outposts had upon the life of the communifies in which
they served. They helped in com munity fund-raising; sang
in church choirs; played in, and helped advance, local
orchestras and theatre groups; and, through marriage,
became part of 25,000 Newfoundland and Labrador
families. It is these activities which are the focus of this
book: A Friendly Invasion II: A Personal
Touch.illustrated. |
