About the Artist
From the South Bronx of New York to the rock strewn shores of the Bay of Fundy, Dutch Robinson's musical journey has been a long and winding one. As lead singer of the funky R&B group, The Ohio Players, Dutch appeared on Soul Train and the Tonight Show. He eventually launched a solo career after leaving the Players. Dutch has worked with the likes of Tommy Motolla, Darryl Hall, John Oates, Melba Moore, Kid Creole and the Coconuts, and Curtis Mayfield. Dutch was involved in the Black Theatre Workshop in Montreal, and has worked with the Famous Players in Toronto. He has appeared on Electric Circus, Due South, Black Harbor, Canada AM and Treehouse's Ants In Your Pants. Dutch also performed the lead role in Dream of a Lifetime, a musical theatre production about the life of Marvin Gaye, featured in New York, Montreal, Toronto, and the Bernard Shaw Theatre in London, England. Dutch is currently working on a similar project entitled Life's Opera which toured Atlantic Canada July 2003.
Links to the Maritimes have been apart of Dutch's career for years. He sang the title track on Joe Sealy's Africville Suite featured in an Adrienne Clarkson CBC special, written by Dan Hill. Dutch headlined at the International Gospel Festival in 1992 in Halifax. The East Coast is gradually feeling the impact of his larger-than-life voice and spirit that is Mr. Dutch Robinson.
