Harry Martin
Biography
Harry Martin was born and raised in Cartwright, Labardor. His ancestry is a mixture of European settler and Labrador Inuit. His music and songs reflect the rugged and majestic beauty of Labrador. His music tells the stories of pioneers and old times, and pay tribute to the triumphs and tragedies of early life in Labrador.
Harry Martin is passionate about the need to protect our natural habitat and to be respectful of the old ways of life. Harry was the first recipient of the "Caring for the Earth" award and was name Provincial Wildlife Officer of the year.
Harry's musical influences include Gordon Lightfoot and other performers of the "folk revival" movement. His performances have taken him to every province in Canada, and even to Bristol, England where he performed for her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. In 1997, he was also named Labrador Entertainer of the Year
and in 2001 he was nominated for Aboriginal Artist of the Year by the East Coast Music Awards, and in 2004 he was Musician in Residence at Gros Morne National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, in Newfoundland, Canada
