Figgy Duff
Figgy Duff burst onto the National scene in 1976, playing Celtic rock like nobody had ever heard it
before or since. Six piece, brazen and daring, they drew rave reviews from both sides of the border,
and comparisons with the Chieftans, Stivell, Planxty, Fairport Convention, and other pioneers of the
Folk/Rock genre. Figgy Duff's music had a distinct and living source - the Island of Newfoundland,
which they combed for years, learning songs and dance music directly from the people, and
interpreting on electric, contemporary instruments.
They recorded five albums, all dramatically different, one of which was never released. Over the
years they developed from all-traditional music to their own still undefineable original music.
