About the Artists...
The Celtic Fiddlers are a group of approximately 24 young people ranging in age from 13 to 22 years whose main goal is to keep Newfoundland and Irish Music alive in the youth of our province. They were formed in 1994 under the direction of the very dedicated Korona Brophy, and have been touted as true Newfoundland ambassadors of traditional music by the Department of Tourism.
The Celtic Fiddlers are a performing group that consists of drums including the bodhran, a keyboard, guitar, bass Irish tin whistle, and many violins. The group practices every week and enjoys learning new pieces of music, expecially the songs and jigs and reels of their Irish ancestors.
The Celtic Fiddlers have performed at many functions including benefits, concerts, weddings, funerals, fundraising events, conferences, the Janeway telethon, dinner theatres, and Canada Day celebrations both here at home and in Ottawa. Their most memorable performance/trip was in 1999, where they were invited to perform at several folk festivals throughout Ireland. They won the busking competition at the world famous "Puck Fair", where many local Irish musicians perform. Upon their return, they celebrated with a huge party at City Hall and released their first CD titled Passage.
