Allan Ricketts is a young traditional musician and visual artist from Torbay, NL. Allan plays traditional Newfoundland and Irish songs and tunes and has developed a deeply authentic approach to this tradition. He has performed at numerous special events and festivals, including the Hillside Festival in Torbay, the Annual NL Folk Festival in St. John's, Eastport Accordion Festival, and the Burin Folk Festival.
As part of the NL Youth Ventures Program, Allan was the recipient of the 2004 & 2005 High Artistic Achievement Award. In 2006, under the same program he was awarded the Culture and Tourism Award.
Allan was one of 4 artists selected under the National Artist Program to represent Newfoundland and Labrador at the 2005 Canada Summer Games in Regina, Saskatchewan. In April 2006, he toured Ireland with a group called the Potluck Singers.
On this his first Self Titled CD Allan has chosen to record songs by Pat Byrne "West Moon" & Al Pittman "The Government Game" as well as traditional songs that he arranged with the help of Patrick Moran (The Punters). Patrick Moran was also the producer on this CD. Allan also covers Bob Dylan "Don't Think Twice", Stephen Stills "Helplessly Hoping" and Andy Irvine "West Coast of Clare".
Allan also showcases his talent as a songwriter and composer. He composed "Frank Maher's Tune" and also wrote "Can't Believe I Found You" & "Everytime".
