Description
Whether it is past or present, the kitchen has always seemed to be the gathering place in most Newfoundland homes. Christmas and traditional Newfoundland tunes just seem to go hand-in- hand, whether it is Pop on the squeezebox or Joe from down the road on the fiddle, a good time was always had by all.
Looking back on all my memories of Christmas, the one thing that stands out as my most cherished was the gathering of my whole family at my grandparent's home on Christmas Eve. Among the memories were peppermint knobs, syrup, and the smell of freshly baked fruitcake. There was always an exchange of gifts, warm wishes and of course, a traditional Newfoundland Christmas “Kitchen Party”.
About the Artist
Kelly McEntegart-Sheppard is a self-taught artist, born and raised in Blaketown, Newfoundland where her studio is today. She lives there with her husband, Larry, and two children, Kelsey and Logan.
Her works are repeatedly noted to create nostalgic emotions. As clearly seen in her work, she gets her inspiration from the little things in life that mean the most. Among these are her love of animals, the detail and beauty in nature, along with her love for the innocence of the children in her life, particularly her own son and daughter.
Kelly was featured under Artist Profile in “Collectibles Canada” magazine, winter issue 2002. |
