Book Description
Wrecked Upon This Shore deals with life’s most significant tests: loving and dying, broken relationships, the drive to heal and the impulse to be whole.

At the novel’s centre is Pearl: wild, charismatic, and damaged. We follow her through the eyes of her adult son Stephen, and also from the viewpoint of Mouse, the girl she fell in love with as a teenager. Thirty years old when Pearl is diagnosed with terminal cancer, Stephen is in danger of foundering. Pearl’s cancer becomes a crucible with the power not only to destroy but also to re-forge relationships.

About the Author
Kate Story is an independent artist: a performer, playwright and choreographer. She has worked with many well-known theatre directors, companies and choreographers and has created numerous independent works and collaborations. Kate has been twice nominated for the Ontario Arts Council's prestigious K.M. Hunter Artists Award (2004 and 2006), and in 2005, as part of Peterborough's centennial celebrations, she was named as one of the region's top 100 performing artists of the past century.

Kate comes from a literary Newfoundland lineage. Her father, Dr. George Story, authored the Dictionary of Newfoundland English. Her mother, L. Alice Story, was a creative writer and a musician. At sixteen, Kate attended the Lester B. Pearson College of the Pacific, after which she earned a B.A. Honours in Cultural Studies at Trent University. A number of her written works have been produced as plays, performance, collective works and theatre-dance productions. Presently, she works as a performing artist and as an arts administrator for Peterborough-based dance, theatre and community-based arts organizations.
