Book Description A Trip to Labrador contains the letters and journal of Edward Caldwell Moore, who accompanied Sir Wilfred Grenfell to Labrador in 1905 on the hospital ship Strathcona. A Presbyterian minister and professor at Harvard University, Moore writes of his impressions of the land and the people and of the difficulties of travel and communications. He describes, in surprisingly frank terms, both the positive and negative aspects of Grenfell’s early efforts as a doctor, justice of the peace and missionary. Reviews: "Kirby's book is heart-rending … Engagingly readable and highly recommended … A revealing read for anyone interested in Labrador history." -Darrell Squires, The Western Star “A fascinating read for anyone with the slightest interest in Labrador or the Grenfell mission … Moore gives us a warts-and-all portrait of a man [Grenfell] who has been alternately demonized and deified in Newfoundland and Labrador.” - Robin McGrath, The Telegram “It’s the bits and pieces, the scraps of information and observances that make the book worthwhile.” - Harold Walters, The Packet About the Author A native of Cartwright, Labrador, Kirby Walsh is retired from more than thirty-eight years of ministry in the Anglican Church of Canada. He and his wife, Linda (Poole) of Belleoram, Newfoundland, now make their home in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. His previous work includes the biography, "A Deeper Imprint: The Footsteps of Archbishop Authur Gordon Peters". | |
