She studied piano in Montreal and London, England, worked as a music editor with the NFB for a period of eleven years and then taught piano privately until recently, painting and sketching in her spare time. Art studies included a summer at the Banff School of Fine Arts with A. Y. Jackson as instructor in oil painting. For over twenty years she has kept a journal, continuing her journals when she went to Newfoundland. Since first “discovering” it in 1988, Newfoundland has been her great inspiration. She spent several working summers there, and also a complete year (1992-93) when she gathered material for what ultimately became This is Our Place, This is Our Home.
