About the Author
Ena Farrell Edwards received her early education in St. Lawrence, Newfoundland, where she was born. She later attended the Commercial Academy of Our Lady of Mercy at St. John's, Newfoundland, but in 1967 she left the feild to become a librarian at the St. Lawrence Library.
The history of her community has long been one of her primary interests. A preserver of all that is old, Mrs. Edwards is involved with many phases of community life and is an active member of the St. Lawrence Heritage Society.
She is the recipient of several prestigious awards-the Newfoundland Historical Society Award, the Federal Citation for Citizenship Award, the Cancer Society Award, and most recently, on the Govenor General's visit to St. John's, she has received the Governor General's Caring Award.
Her previous books are Notes Towards the History of St. Lawrence and Billy Spinney, the Umbrella Tree and Other Recollections of St. Lawrence.
