Book Description
A Newfoundland Ranger, who must maintain the peace and survive loneliness and isolation in a northern climate, brings the reader to a vast land with a rich culture and demanding topography. In these personal stories he recounts the challenges of northern living including driving a team of dogs hundreds of miles to Goose Bay, being stranded in a raging blizzard where all hope seems lost, and facing near starvation in the ruggedness of Newfoundland's interior.
About the Author
Cyril Goodyear is a man who loves the outdoors. Having served as a Newfoundland Ranger (later transferred to the RCMP), his initial exposure to nature came as an unwritten part of his job description.
In later years, as Provincial Court Judge, Chief Judge of the Provincial Court, Associate Attorney General and Director of Persecutions, Deputy Minister (Department of Rural, Agricultural, and Northern Development), Cyril always found time to get away from these high-pressure positions and return to nature.
He is the author of these books: The Road to Nowhere and Against the Elements. He currently writes a column for the Western Star.
