Book Description
This book took shape in a project sponsored by the Adult Basic Education (ABE) Writing Network. The project began with workshops in seven coastal communities - places like Fogo, Bonavista and St. Mary's - that are soaked in the stories, history and language of our culture. About one hundred and forty people from adult basic education programs joined us at these sessions to create communities of writers. We met in fire halls, motels, community centers and former convents to discuss our feelings about writing, try out new strategies and draft some powerful stories and unexpected poems.
