"Trust that which gives you meaning and accept it as your guide"
    Carl Jung

Mandala is a Sanskrit word that means Circle or Wheel. A Mandala is a symmetrical geometric design, usually enclosed in a circle. Mandalas have been present in many cultures throughout history and have played an important role in religious ceremonies. According to many traditions, the mandala represents the design of the universe and expresses the order and symmetry that is found there.

Circular forms or "mandalas" abound in the natural world. Toss a pebble on the still pond and watch a spiral form, look at a flower and get lost in the form of its petals, walk on the seashore and pick up a sand dollar and marvel at its symmetry, gaze into a loved one's eyes and get lost in the facets of light that are reflecting there, and look up at the night sky and get lost in the circularity of the moon. The examples are endless but all represent an experience that has no beginning or no end. The mandalas of nature remind us of the pattern of wholeness and perfection that is in the universe. They remind us of ourselves and awaken us to the realization of our wholeness of self

The mandalas found in the Mandala Coloring Book provide geometrical representations of the mandalas found in nature. They were designed to help connect us to the order and symmetry of the universe. As well, the spirals, crosses, cones and angles found in the mandala emit frequencies that resonate with the energies of the soul. Using colors to reveal the patterns of the mandala can lead us to a connection with our inner center and open our imaginations to see the intricate and dynamic forces that live within us.

Working with a mandala as a tool for coloring and meditation has many benefits. Coloring the mandala helps us to shift our attention from external preoccupations to our own inner life. In this way, the mandala offers relaxation and peace and a deepened awareness of the oneness of creation.

Mandala coloring appeals to all ages. The mandalas can be colored for fun or insight, but whatever the reason get the coloring pencils and markers ready and dive right in.

    Back Cover

Mandalas or geometric shapes consisting of a center, symmetry and purpose have long been used by many cultures to symbolize the wholeness of the universe and the human spirit. Whether you color them for fun or insight mandalas provide a means of relaxation, insight and mental activity.

Enjoyed by people of all ages.

    Symbolism of the Mandala
Mandala drawings are a represetation of a life built on balance. The circularity or "roundness" of the mandala can lead us to an experience of wholeness. In the mandala there is central point or focus from which radiates a symmetrical design. Coloring the mandala reminds one of the basic order and symmetry of the universe. and allows us to reach the center and order that resides in all of us. When we begin to "play" with shapes and colors we move from a rational frame of reference to our creative center and inner core.

When we are drawn into our creative essence we find the ways to heal our wounds, and to provide nurturance for the growth of our potential. Looking inside takes us from the preoccupation with external factors and conditions and connect us to an inner space of peace and relaxation. By freeing our energies we can be truly ourselves, and explore the mystery of our inner genius and live more deeply.

    Coloring your Mandala
In coloring the mandala, let the choice of colors be instinctive. Pick the colors that attract your attention and do not think as you begin to color. Let one color gently attract another and so on. While certain colors may be associated with certain emotions, for example red with anger, in coloring a mandala it is best to choose colors that have meaning for you. The colors we love or hate often reflect who we are and have something to say about us. The coloring of a mandala serves to focus on your own experience of color and is a means to communicate between the conscious and the unconscious.

    Interpreting Your Mandala
You can start to interpret your mandala by coming up with a title that best describes what you see. Just write down what comes to you, and don't spend a lot of time thinking about it.

Next, list the colors that you have used and after each color write an association to the color. As well note any shapes that you see and write those down along with the associations that pop into your mind. After you have written those, note any patterns, themes or energies that seem to emerge. Write a few sentences about what you are feeling.

    Testimonials
"I find that when I am really feeling anxious, I color a mandala and immediately I feel a strong sense of peace. Sometimes I color a full mandala, but at other times I merely color part of one and finish it later." Ann Marie

" I used the mandalas in my classroom with my students before an exam. This allows them to calm down and center before the exam begins. It reduces anxiety so students can perform better." Bridget

"I use my mandala coloring book as a journal. On the blank pages I write what I am feeling before coloring or ask a questions and after I have colored I jot down a few thoughts or even many times the answer to a question I need answered." May

"I had a feeling one day that I was coming down with the flu. To relax, I picked up my Mandala Coloring Book. After coloring for 15 minutes or so I noticed a big reduction in my symptoms. I felt more energy and not quite as "fluey" as before." Sandra
