Book Description In 1999, Newfoundland journalist Martin Lobigs set out on the adventure of a lifetime – a bicycle trip from St. John's, Newfoundland, all the way to Patagonia, at the tip of Argentina. The journey took him five years. In A LIFE ON WHEELS IN LATIN AMERICA Biking Alone from Newfoundland to Tierra del Fuego, Lobigs tells the dramatic story of his trip through the United States, Mexico, Central America and then South America. Along the way he encountered thieves, drug dealers, guerillas and con artists. But he also traveled through some of the most beautiful landscapes in the western hemisphere. And he met people who offered food, shelter and comfort to this stranger from a strange land. Lobigs originally wrote the memoir as a lasting record for his own enjoyment. Readers will find within its pages a story of endurance, hope, and courage. For anyone planning a similar trip to Latin America, this narrative will be a guide and inspiration, whether you are in an armchair or on a bicycle saddle. About the Author Martin Lobigs immigrated from Germany to Canada in 1976 at the age of 19. Since 1992, he has been residing in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador where he has worked with refugees, as an inspector for an engineering company, a self-employed handyman and a freelance contributor to The Telegram newspaper. He has a bachelor degree in Forest Science and an MA in History. | |
