This is the story of Newfoundland-born Pearl Collis' lifelong love affair with an American soldier she met during the Second World War. In 1942 with Nazi Germany and the Allies locked in ceaseless struggle across Europe, young Pearl Collis and John Kochansky found peace and happiness with each other while stationed in Argentia, Newfoundland.
The U.S. Army base at Argentia served as the backdrop for a love test that would stand the test of time.
About the Author
Pearl Collis was born in Harbour Grace, Newfoundland in 1922, the youngest of three children born to Athelstan and Mary Collis. In 1942, during the Second World War, she moved to Argentia and began working in office administration alongside U.S. military personnel who were stationed there. She met and married John Kochan, a U.S. soldier stationed at the same base. Together they travelled across the United States, finally settling with their daughter in Malibu, California, fulfilling Pearl’s lifelong dream to live on the sunny Pacific coast. Pearl Collis Kochan currently resides in Malibu, California.
