A composition of 25 short essays on topics that relate to the author's schooling, childhood activities (including examples of what satirist Ray Guy would no doubt label out harbour delights), and family life in Gin Cove during the 1930s and 1940s. This book will be much appreciated by anyone who grew up in outport Newfoundland and attended small schools, particularly the one-room, all-grade type. Much of what the author recalls from his early life represents the shared and common cultural experiences of many thousands of individuals pre-Confederation era. Reading this book will thus evoke their own childhood days and make them wish they had taken the time to write their own stories. Perhaps it might inspire them to do so. Paperback.
