Book Description For the Moment is the courageous story of Bob Wakeham’s triumph over the pain and torment of cancer. Bob Wakeham of Flatrock, Newfoundland, is known across Canada as a courageous and outspoken filmmaker, journalist, and broadcaster. When he was diagnosed with cancer, however, his life changed in a moment. Now he needed all the raw strength he could muster to deal with the toughest challenge he had ever faced. It will make you believe again in the power of life and love. Bob Wakeham was born in Gander, Newfoundland on March 24, 1950. He was educated in Gander and in the United States, and graduated from the University of North Dakota in 1972 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and a major in journalism. His journalism career began in September of 1972 at The Evening Telegram where he worked as a reporter for eight years; he also worked for CBC Radio for five years as an interviewer and commentator; and the remainder of his career, until his retirement in 2005, was spent at CBC Television as executive producer of the highly successful supper hour program, Here and Now, and the documentary programs On Camera, Soundings and Land and Sea. Since his retirement, he has been writing a weekly column for The Telegram and teaching a course at Memorial University on documentary-making. Wakeham has won a number of regional, national and international awards for his work, especially in the field of documentaries. He and his wife, Heather Coultas, an elementary school teacher, live in the small, oceanside community of Flatrock, Newfoundland, a 20 minute drive from St. John’s. They share their home with their four dogs: Bucko, Clover, Beamer and Tandy. | |
