An adventure story for children ages 7-9. 28 pages with full color illustrations by the Author.
Three whales run afoul of Sam, the cantankerous giant squid. How the dispute arose and how it is settled contains a good lesson for children while they enjoy a good story and learn about the sea and its creatures.
Dan wrote this story for his three children. In a way it is also about them because the personality of each child is reflected in a whale: Sarah, aged 9, is Nancy; Allan, 8, is Harry and Kristina, 4, is Bonnie. They love it!
Dan is well qualified to write a story of the sea. He works as a research technician with Department of Fisheries Oceans and is studying fish migration and distribution. He is a scuba diver and in his spare time does wood carvings of whales. His sensitivity to the ocean environment and understanding of children show clearly in his writing.
"The Ocean's Garden is more than just a good read. Kids who read the book will learn about whales and the environment in which they live. They'll also find out how much nicer the world can be when there's co-operation and understanding and mutual respect. Plus, they'll learn just how effective laughter can be as a tool against unpleasantries. The story of the whales is essentially the story about family interaction."
