Book Description Grieving over the brutal murder of their son Andrew, a mother and father must deal with an even more unbearable crime - the murder of an infant grandson. Dave and Kate Bagby's beloved son Andrew, a young doctor, was murdered in November 2001. His body, lying in a blood-soaked gravel parking lot, covered with a thin layer of frost, was discovered in Keystone State Park outside Latrobe, Pennsylvania, by a homeless man searching dumpsters for aluminum cans. The murderer was his ex- girlfriend, Shirley Turner, also a doctor. Little did the Bagbys know, however, that the worst was not over. Turner, knowing charges would be laid against her, fled the U.S. to her family home in Newfoundland. While fending off extradition efforts by U.S. law enforcement, Turner discovered she was pregnant with Andrew's son Zachary. The Bagbys - hoping to gain custody of Zachary, frustrated beyond endurance as the legal process dragged interminably, and unable to make any headway with Canadian social services - moved from their home in California and settled in Newfoundland. In September 2003, Shirley Turner murdered 13-month-old Zachary and then killed herself. Dance with the Devil is an angry, raw, and brutally honest memoir of murder and loss, but also an eye-popping and terrifying indictment of the Canadian judicial and social service systems that failed Zachary and the Bagbys in nearly every way. About the Author David Bagby is a retired engineer. He and his wife live in Sunnyvale, California. However, they continue to travel extensively in Canada, especially Newfoundland, in their continuing efforts to bring needed attention to the rights of victims and the failures of the system. They have been interviewed many times by television and newspapers, and have been the subjects of a CBC documentary. | |
