Book Description
"Why write about a desolate, barren, abondoned rock off the coast of Labrador in the North Atlantic? I suppose this place holds great sentimental value to me." C.J. Poole chronicles the history of 19th century Battle Harbour with excerpts from period sources and diaries as well as stories and anecdotes from the area.

About the Author
Calvin Poole was born at the Grenfell Hospital in Mary's Harbour, Labrador during 1947 and grew up at the nearby fishing community of Fox Harbour (St. Lewis) where he still resides. Although Poole was nine years old before he attended school, he always had a great interest in boks. In the past several years he developed an interest in Labrador history. He has written history articles for Them Days magazine and Linking the Generations. He also writes a monthly history column "Cal's Corner" for his local paper.

Poole is married and has five children. He has worked for the past 30 years with the Government of Canada. In addition, he is a member of the Canadian Forces Reserves, a Sergeant with the Canadian Rangers. He enjoys boating, snowmobiling and his history research. Although he has travelled, studied and lived in several places in Canada, his favourite place and home is still Labrador.
